Summary:
This individual is responsible for overview and supervision of all billing and collection activity in the practice, and supervision of the Billing Department, including training, and maintaining employee schedules and personnel files; overseeing accounts receivable and credit card payment balances; maintaining current billing and coding files; processing all refunds.
Education and
Experience:
1.
High school diploma or equivalent.
2.
Two years' supervisory experience in a medical office.
3.
Five years' experience in billing/coding.
4.
CPC preferred.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
1.
Computer literacy, including knowledge of software programs utilized in the practice.
2.
Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid rules and regulations and CPT and ICD-10 coding.
3.
Solid understanding of private insurance rules and regulations.
4.
Good communication skills.
5.
Ability to work as a team member.
6.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
7.
Management of multiple projects simultaneously.
8.
Respectful treatment of patients and co-workers.
Responsibilities:
1.
Claims Preparation and Filing:
Enters all charges for Clinic daily.
Transmit electronic claims.
Check Waystar for Medicare Remits to post manually.
Keep track of missing op notes for all facilities.
2.
A/R:
Work aging weekly.
Follow up on insurance claims over 30 days.
Monitor EOBs daily for denials and proper payment.
Make adjustments as needed.
3.
Appeals:
File appeals on unpaid claims.
Provide necessary information to insurance companies.
Follow up monthly on pending appeals.
4.
Compliance:
Keep abreast of coding/Medicare updates and changes; update appropriate personnel.
Stay up-to-date with changes in the healthcare industry and incorporate best practices into the billing office's processes and procedures.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure that billing processes are integrated with other aspects of the revenue cycle Maintain Medicare standards when coding.
5.
Insurance Credentialing:
Maintain current credentialing with all contracted insurance companies Address gaps in contracting with Billing Manager Complete paperwork as needed and forward to Compliance Officer.
6.
Fee Schedules:
Update fee schedules as contracts change and new contracts are added.
Inform front office staff of changes.
7.
Refunds:
Work refund monthly.
Refund patient if the patient does not have an appointment within 3 months.
8.
Patient Complaints:
Handle patient complaints related to the Billing Office.
Share relevant information with Billing Manager.
9.
Patient Scheduling:
Coordinate with front office for physician scheduling on Fridays.
10.
Supervise Billing Department:
Assist Manager as needed.
Keep up-to-date on all billing issues.
Approve out of network benefits, exceptions, and fee reductions.
Resolve patient and billing staff disputes.
Assist billers with any questions that may arise.
Help train new personnel within the billing department.
Perform other duties as required.
